makes good sense to spend cents to save dollars

Getting your motorcycle stolen involves being robbed twice: once from the thief who rode off on your bike and second from the insurance company that low-balls you on your bike’s value and waits 30-days to issue you a check for the bike.
Your bikes safety is your responsibility so spend some dollars to protect your investment to keep your bike pristine and safely in your hands.

Everyone loves free parking but if you’ve ever came outside to find your motorcycle keeled over pissing fluids on the pavement you learn there’s never free parking. It’s easy to blame the driver who ricocheted off your motorcycle but that takes responsibility out of your hands. If you keep two dollars in miscellaneous change in your motorcycle jacket you’ll be able to afford your own spot and avoid the costs associated with free parking. To avoid getting parking tickets always add 50% more time then you need. It makes good sense to spend cents to save dollars.

Always park your motorcycle in a conspicuous location to keep your bike from getting damaged by errant drivers or discourage thieves. If possible park where you can see your motorcycle, it it’s not possible park under a streetlight or another a well-lit location. If none of the above is possible try paying to park. Sure paying to park lacks the allure of a dark alley. How much is your piece of mind is worth?

Motorcyclists can find safety in numbers so if a neighbor or coworker owns a motorcycle you can lock your bikes together and double both of your chances of finding your bikes in the morning. Run a cable through one rim and then run the cable through the frame and around the other rim. Then you neighbor/co-worker can run their cable through your cable so that the bikes are tethered together but either party can remove their lock and ride away. Lastly if you’re not going to ride for a while invest in a PVC cover ($25 and up). Besides protecting you motorcycle from rain and sun, the cover keeps potential thieves looking elsewhere. Following these steps will keep your motorcycle immune from tickets and thieves for less then the cost of your deductible in less time then it takes to fill out a police report.
