above the porno shop

You weren't even old enough to buy beer when you moved into that two-bedroom apartment above the porno shop in southwest Portland.

I remember having to use my fake id for a couple of weeks before your 21st birthday and since school started in September you have a birthday coming up soon; probably 30? You were going to school for graphic design and now some ten years later you are going back to finish your degree. Persistence pays off and I tip my hat in your direction.

Haha life is a funny thing my friend of ten+ years. Today I officially gave up on plucking grey hairs from my head but I feel strong none-the-less having quit cigarettes again and playing basketball three times a week; life is good.

And yourself, what brings a smile to your face these days? Sadly, I do not know as we have grown apart over the years to the point where we are strangers with a past. You likely stay busy these days with work, school, two cats and a wife-sheesh. Still have plans of starting a printing company?

Hopefully that dream hasn't fallen by the wayside as I figure you need a job with some creative outlet...but who am I to be lecturing. The other day I was thinking that in all my years and with over twenty jobs on my resume I can only count one great day of work in my life.

Finding something I love doing is a new short-term goal in my life. Lately I've been considering signing up for the US State Department of Peace Corps just to earn a living doing something that matters. Spending all day at a computer tinkering with application, scrawling e-mails just isn't cutting it anymore.

A quote comes to mind: "The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark," Michelangelo. Let us demand the best in life and with hard work we shall receive and while I'm not sure where life will bring me, I take comfort in knowing you if only for a little while. Wherever life brings you and Melissa I wish you all the best.

You weren't even old enough to buy beer when you moved into that two-bedroom apartment above the porno shop in southwest Portland; and I look forward to the day I can buy you a beer in the future. Merry birthday Ryan
